Your workouts should reflect the high intensity and the balance at the same time. You would need to follow KISS formula, keep it short and simple but follow a high intensity level of training in that short amount of time you have. In short, you can do HIIT. The famous athletes stay utilize the limited time they have and mastering few skill-sets, and work on their fitness weakness. Their approach becomes deliberate and yours should too if you want to stay fit after 40. Exercise keeps your mind fit; it circulates blood and oxygen to entire body with ease and rejuvenates your mind. Go hard and easy but also take as much time for recovery to stay fresh.

Healthy eating and nutrition

If you think that dummy pills are the answer to nutrition and healthy diet when you are getting older then you should consider the scientific fact by British Journal of Nutrition. They published a paper which states that people who took it suffered a mental decline and were found fighting anxiety. You wouldn’t want to do this when you are in 40s. If you want to take supplements, consult with your physician first at this age, not your friends.

Cut back on Caffeine, avoid sugar or balance your blood sugar if you have diabetes, add more vegetables and proteins, have breakfast within an hour of waking up, mix antioxidants to prevent skin damage, and add healthy fats in your diet. Add more calcium to strengthen your bones. Remember that “One Apple A Day,”? Now would be the good time to take it seriously, and literally.

Schedule and organize your sleep patterns

You are no longer getting younger so you are not getting away with sleeping just 4- hours a day like you used to do in your 20s, and probably 30s even. Your health, both of mind and body, is of paramount importance in your 40s and you should schedule and organize your sleep patterns. Stay away from drinking late at nights as that would be an atrocious combination if you sleep late, and wake up early. Your mornings in your 40s should be about waking up fresh and ready to go, not struggling to get over a hangover.

Learn something new and try what you haven’t tried

It will be rewarding to suck at new things and suck less by the passage of time than to not having tried them. It’s all about keeping your body and mind active. Tell us what stuff you have been trying to stay fit after 40.
