Contrary to popular belief, a mans best friend isn’t a dog, but his ol’ fella down there. Literally and figuratively inseparable, anything that might go wrong with the penis is a nightmare prospect for all sensible men out there. Here are some common penis problems that most men will face hopefully only once in their lives.

1. Just a chafe? Or is it?

Chafing can be caused by having a bout of prolonged intercourse, excessive masturbation, or wearing those BDSM stuff. If all these were not apart of your recent agenda and you see a reddish patch of skin that doesn’t hurt or itch, get yourself checked right away as this could be penile cancer and they may have to cut it off. Don’t worry, once diagnosed early this is a breeze to treat.

2. Shrunken skin

Especially if you are uncircumcised, look out when your foreskin becomes tight even when you have a flaccid penis. If there are white spots in the same area, this could be lichen sclerosis. If left untreated your foreskin will get so tight that you wont be able to urinate and you will land in the ER.

3. Too curvy?

The most overlooked common penis problems is Peyronie’s disease. Most if not all penises have a steady bend to it and it stays the way it is forever. But if the curvature increases this could be calcified scar tissue that will lead to painful sex, and a broken penis. Oh yes, you can break that bone indeed.

4. Discharges

I can’t stress enough that any blood or pus found down there for men is a cause for great alarm. The usual suspects if you see blood in your urine is a prostate problem, or kidney stones. Bladder cancer can also be the cause but is less common than the latter. But don’t panic when you see blood in your pants, check your scrotum and shaft for cherry or blue colored spots. If these spots are spread out its just Angiokeratoma and are a rare but harmless occurrence.

If you get the urge to pee or a burning pain when you go, this may be gonorrhea or HGU and you never have sex again until you are cured, tested, and cleared.

5. Watch out for bumps

If you have tough, painless bumps when you give your fellas a scratch this may very well be testicular cancer. When diagnosed early this is 99% curable so if your ages 20 – 35 give your buddies a good rub and check for these signs.

If the bumps are a little bit soft, and along the shaft of your penis these could be genital warts caused by HPV. HPV is incurable but the warts themselves that spread it can be removed using lasers, surgery, or freezing.

If the bumps are little, painful specks that last for more than two weeks it could be Genital Herpes or Syphilis. Or it could just be a reaction to prescription medicine. Either way, run to a doctor when you notice them.

6. Cant get it up

This is the bane of older men. Other common penis problems got nothing on Erectile Dysfunction. Many factors contribute to this, including circulation problems, diabetes, and lack of testosterone. Other causes include alcohol and drug abuse, leakage of blood through the veins of the penis, or too much stress and anxiety. Depending on the cause, your doctor will come up with a plan that’s right for you.
