Are you wondering what is the best whiskey in the world? Well, there is one strong contender. According to the SFWSC (San Francisco World Spirits Competition), the 25-Year-Old single-malt by Glen Scotia is the best whiskey in the world.

Note that it does not only stand out in the category of single malts, instead, overall. According to most spirits enthusiasts, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition is just like the Oscars but in the world of booze.

These awards date back to the year 2000. This makes the SFWSC the second oldest competition covering spirits. Though, it is the oldest one in the US. However, the distillery has been quite obscure. Hence, it is surprising that this 25-year-old single malt became the best whiskey in the world.

According to sources, this whiskey stood out in a total of 1275 entries. Out of these, 269 were scotch. Glen Scotia, the whiskey brand describes their best whiskey in the world as having a fruity apple-like taste mixed with caramel, vanilla, and a spicy finish.

In a statement, the Master Distiller from Glen Scotia stated, “To receive such outstanding feedback and be recognized as ‘Best in Show’ at this prestigious competition is an honor and a tremendous boost to the entire team here at Glen Scotia distillery.”

He further added, “The Glen Scotia 25-Year-Old is a really outstanding liquid and has collected a number of the top industry awards over the years, but this has to be one of the proudest moments for the distillery to date.”

Indeed, there is a reason why this Glen Scotia single-malt is dubbed as the best whiskey in the world. It comes from Campbeltown in Scotland, which is referred to as the whiskey capital. Some 30 distilleries were operating in this down in the Victorian ages. Yet a few live up to their name today.

Here in Australia, a single bottle of the 25-year-old Glen Scotia single malt aka the best whiskey in the world would cost $499 (700 ml). A bit pricey but worth it!
