Apple Unveils the iPhone XS

The iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR

As the rumors said, there’s a new iPhone (or iPhones) in town. Apple has revealed an update to the iPhone X called the iPhone XS, which can be hard to say for those with a lisp so it’s technically the “10 s”. They say they improved on last year’s model but a first glance it looks like a simple color change. We shall see.

The iPhone XS has a 5.8-inch OLED touch screen now with a “Super” Retina display and it has also upgraded its screen glass making it even tougher than before. Its camera is better than ever and guarantees you can capture those instagrammable hostels like a pro. The iPhone XS also got a huge storage upgrade and now sports 512Gb of memory and that’s quite a lot. When I mentioned the color change, I meant that apple now has a “never before used” shade of gold apart from its silver and space gray variants.

Key Specs

  • 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED display
  • 3 storage options: 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB
  • $999 starting price ($1390 AUD)
  • 3 color options: gold, space gray, and silver
  • dual 12MP wide-angle and telephoto cameras
  • Face ID
  • better splash, water, and dust resistance
  • A12 bionic chip
  • Apple Pay

Along with the XS comes the larger XS Max for those with big hands and fat fingers. It’s a whopper that reminds me of the “Phablets” that were big a few years back. You may find hard to fit into your pocket since It boasts a large 6.5-inch touch screen and is slightly more expensive but with the same specs. The XS Max has a smaller bezel than the XS and the new iPhone variant has a much better battery life that lasts 90 minutes longer than the iPhone X.

Key Specs

  • 6.5-inch Super Retina OLED screen
  • 3 storage options: 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB

The XS starts at $999 while the XS Max starts at $1,099. Is the iPhone X and its variants too pricey? Apple just took a page out of Samsung’s book and also revealed the iPhone XR. The XR is a cheaper option that has a 6.1-inch touch screen, a liquid retina display, and slightly lower specs than the iPhone X. It comes with many colors like white, black, blue, coral, red and yellow so it’s definitely stylish as well. The XR comes in at $749 (though that price is still a little steep compared to other Android flagship phones) and has 64Gb, 128Gb, and 256Gb options.

Key Specs

  • 6.1-inch Liquid Retina LCD display
  • three storage options: 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB

As far as the iPhone release date goes; Pre ordering for the iPhone Xs and Xs Max starts at September 14, and will be available September 21, while the XR will come a bit later for pre order on October 19 and will be available October 26. It’s good that Apple is coming out of its “exclusivity” bubble and reaching out to more potential customers with its pricing options. So choose your iPhone, and spend your hard earned money wisely.
