For as long as the UFC fans can remember, Octagon Girls have been there to add a lot of style and oomph factor to the fights. They hold the responsibility of sharing the round number with the audience. With their deep tans and minimal clothing, they are a delight for the fighters and the audience. But the politicians are making efforts to stop their appearance in the future. What’s the entire matter? Read on to know.

Even as Dana White is preparing to bring UFS 243 to Australia next month, the local politicians are gearing up to eliminate Octagon Girls from the sport. Sally Capp, Melbourne’s Lord Mayor, says the role of the girls is a sexist tradition that undermines women. She stated: “It’s 2019, do we really still need scantily clad women to wander around the middle of a fighting ring between rounds?” She mentioned that grid girls in Formula 1 racing, and walk-on girls for professional darts are no longer there, so the Octagon Girls could also be removed.

The Premier of Victoria, Daniel Andrews, also said: “The Grand Prix did the right thing in ending the use of grid girls, and we encourage other events to make similar moves.”

What the politicians are failing to understand is the fact that Octagon Girls aren’t there for show only. It’s a job and a career for many of them. Arianny Celeste is the longest tenure Octagon Girl as she has been with the organization since 2006. Girls like Jhenny Andrade, Chrissy Blair, and Brittney Palmer even have a fan base.

Most of the girls earn a decent living from their jobs and get to travel the world. Many of the Octagon Girls use this part-time job as a springboard for landing modelling contracts or TV work.

Many twitter users supported the Octagon Girls openly. One user highlighted that the fighters are also scantily dressed, so there is no point in objecting to the clothing of the girls. Another highlighted that UFC brand helps the girls to get their modelling careers started so the feminists shouldn’t take their careers away.

Which side are you on? The Octagon Girls or the feminists.
