Australia is Already Set to Get the COVID-19 Vaccine in March 2021

Federal Health Minister spoke about the COVID-19 vaccine-related plans

COVID-19 Vaccine in March 2021

The news of the UK getting the COVID-19 vaccine in the next few days got people thinking when it will be available in Australia. It seems that the Australian government is playing smartly as it plans to get the vaccine in the country as soon as March 2021 even after getting TGA approval.

Federal Health Minister spoke about the COVID-19 vaccine-related plans and said that Australia is doing magnificently in order to combat the ingoing coronavirus pandemic, which means that the original vaccination plan would be followed. He stated, “We are on track for first vaccinations, beginning with our health workers and our aged care residents, subject to approvals in March.” He also said that Australia is “moving quickly, but safely”.

For those who are unaware, the UK granted emergency approval for rolling out the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine yesterday. It is 95% effective against the virus. As the country had 13,400 new infections on December 1, the government has speeded up things to ensure that the vaccine reaches the market quickly. It granted temporary and targeted approval to the vaccine. People who are aged more than 80 and those who are vulnerable would get it first. Then the NHS staff members might get it.

Australia has secured 10 million doses of that Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine pre-emptively. But the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine would not be as quick as the UK because the country has controlled community transmission. So, the vaccine will be submitted for full Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approval. He said “I have again spoken to the Australian CEO of Pfizer, they remain on track for vaccine delivery once it is approved for use in Australia by the independent regulator.

He added “Safety is our number priority. And Australia is well placed both for a thorough, but rapid safety assessment and early rollout of a free, voluntary but entirely universally available COVID-19 vaccine program.”

It should be noted here that the Australian government has signed deals for not just one COVID-19 vaccine but several of them. We hope that all of them prove effective in getting the world out of this mess and 2021 brings positivity to our lives.
