One of the most anticipated MCU films that got postponed multiple times due to the coronavirus pandemic, Black Widow was worth the wait. It sees Natasha Romanoff head to a solo mission and shows how deals with her past. In addition to the exciting storyline, what caught our attention was the interesting post-credits scene. Here’s what we know so far.

(Warning, Black Widow spoilers ahead!)

Black Widow post-credit scene

In Black Widow, Natasha meets up with her “family” (turns out that they were espionage agents) like Melina Vostokoff, Yelena Belova, and Alexei Shostakov and takes down a deadly secret organisation, Red Room. The post credit scene shows her grave. After she dies during Avengers: Endgame, to get the soul stone, Yelena and her dog Fanny visit Nat’s grave. The grave is possibly under a cherry blossom tree, just like how Nat’s mother was buried.

On the grave, three words are inscribed- “Daughter, Sister, Avenger.” The quiet, emotional moment in the Black Widow post-credits scene is interrupted by Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine who shares a photo of Hawkeye (aka Clint Barton) with Yelena and says, “Maybe you’d like a shot at the man responsible for your sister’s death.”

The post-credits scene of Black Widow makes it clear that the Disney + Hawkeye series will have one villain for sure, Yelena (And possibly Val). It is obvious that Val will use Yelena to eliminate the Avengers.

We last saw Val in the last two episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier when she decided to use the recruited Captain America (now US Agent) John Walker for her means.

Val’s appearance in the Black Widow movie makes people pay attention to her character. In the comics, she worked for SHIELD but later revealed to be a Russian sleeper agent. However, her true allegiance might still be with Russia. She assumed the identity of Madame Hydra.

Given her recruitment of highly trained individuals who’ve had a rough time in their lives — Yelena, who spent years as a brainwashed super assassin and Walker, who lost the title of Captain America for violently killing an man in public — it’s possible Val is trying to create an MCU equivalent of the comics’ Dark Avengers or Thunderbolts. Both of these superteams were made up of villains, unbeknownst to the world at large.

It’s also a possibility that Yelena will try to kill Clint only briefly during his series, in a classic “heroes fight due to misunderstanding, then team up” comic-style plot, since he came to blows with Natasha as he tried to die in her place for the Soul Gem and then both will probably end up mourning her loss. The new Marvel show, which will also introduce Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, is scheduled to hit Disney Plus end of this year.

The Black Widow post-credit scene is also important because it is a moving memorial for Nat, a character that has been with us since 2010 (Iron Man 2). She has been a part of the MCU for longer than even Captain America, Thor, or The Hulk. She finally got the memorial she deserved and will live on forever in the memory of true MCU fans.

Elsewhere in entertainment, have you seen Loki episode 5 yet?
