Well, Jeff Bezos does not only want humanity to go to space, but it also wants everyone to thrive there. Just recently, Blue Origin, his aerospace company, unveiled a concept design for a business space station. This space station is referred to as the Orbital Reef.

For now, Jeff Bezos has not stated any deadline for its completion. However, it has been stated that the low-orbital outpost could be a nice replacement for the ISS that is aging for a while.

Blue Origin has given out a proposal to NASA while it is figuring out what could be done with the ISS that is 20 years old. For instance, the space laboratory, which cost $100 billion to build, is now showing signs of wear and tear. It is all set to reach its end by 2030.

The steps that NASA would take next would wholly be dependent on congress funds. However, there is a need for a new space station. Based on the proposal by Blue Origin, various space firms such as Boeing and Sierra Space will team up to develop a space station.

Jeff Bezos apparently wants the Orbital Reef to be a “mixed-use business park” that will help thrive economic activity with new markets in space. Based on certain renders, the design is quite like the space stations in the past. Furthermore, the Orbital Reef could house 10 astronauts.

Regarding this, The Senior Vice President at Blue Origin, Brent Sherwood, stated, “For over sixty years, NASA and other space agencies have developed orbital space flight and space habitation, setting us up for commercial business to take off in this decade.”

Currently, NASA can allocate $400 million for the construction. However, not many companies have the required resources to pitch in. Though, Jeff Bezos is certainly one with great wealth and resources at its end.

Just like Blue Origin by Jeff Bezos, other companies are in the race as well. For instance, Lockheed Martin also revealed a proposal for the space station called Star Lab. Nevertheless, it is now evident that Jeff Bezos wants Blue Origins to be a lot more than just a company sending rockets in the low orbit.

Rather, Blue Origin hopes to make significant contributions to help mankind thrive in space.
