COVID Update – Queensland

Who Needs to Wear a Face Mask?

According to the latest COVID update, people in the local government areas of Gold Coast, Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Logan, Ipswich, Redlands, Brisbane, Morton, the Scenic Rim, Somerset, and the Lockyer valley need to wear a mask when they are outside the home. Though the mask is mandatory for visiting a café or a restaurant, a person is free to remove it while drinking or eating. Masks in these areas of Queensland can be removed if you are doing vigorous exercise. Kids under the age of 12 do not need to follow this new mask rule.

According to the latest COVID update, people who are outside these local government areas are encouraged by the government to wear masks, but it is not mandatory. People who have been in LGAs of Queensland in the last 14 days need to follow the same mask rules.

Restrictions on Gathering and Events

Household gatherings in these LGAs of Queensland are restricted to 30 people. According to the new COVID update, public outdoor gatherings of a maximum of 500 people are allowed. Weddings are allowed with 100 people at max, and dancing is limited to 20 people. The new rules in the COVID-19 update also say that ticketed and allocated seating is mandatory at weddings. Funerals are limited to just 100 people in the LGAs of Queensland and ticketed, and allocated seating is mandatory there as well.

For other parts of Queensland, indoor rules say there should be one person per 2sqm or 100% capacity with allocated and ticketed seating. The public gatherings are limited to up to 100 people only. The new COVID update says that funerals and weddings to areas other than the LGAs should be limited to a person per 2 sqm or a maximum of 200 people or 100% capacity with allocated and ticketed seating.

Businesses are open with limitations, and people of other states who have travelled to Queensland are asked to check new restrictions they need to follow when they come back. A list of exposure sites has also been made public. This major COVID update comes after the news about the NSW lockdown.
