It is a sad day for Daft Punk fans as the Paris-born electronic music duo have officially split up. Yes, the duo, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, and Thomas Bangalter are hanging up their helmets. They announced the news of their split via an eight-minute video entitled Epilogue. It is excerpted from a 2006 sci-fi film called Electroma that they did in 2006. Their publicist has also confirmed the news.

Formed in 1993 in Paris, Daft Punk had a tremendous effect on the then-emerging house as well as techno scenes of Europe and then around the globe. Daft Punk has given popular albums like Homework in 1997 and Discovery in 2001. The duo also gave iconic singles like One More Time and Around the World.

One of the milestones achieved by Daft Punk is the anime film Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem. For those who are unaware, it told a visualized narrative of their album Discovery. They formed a partnership with popular manga artist Leiji Matsumoto and remarkable Japanese studio Toei Animation for that project.

Daft Punk became very elusive throughout the 2000s. They hid behind their helmets and were not eager to make public appearances or give interviews. They also paused production on follow-up albums after Human After All in 2005. Still, they stayed relevant through prescient infusions of dance music into mainstream culture.

In 2007, Daft Punk became popular again as they licensed Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger to Kanye West for his single Stronger. In 2010, they produced their first-ever film score- the Tron: Legacy soundtrack. They came back in 2013 with Random Access Memories, an album they released. It was dedicated to live instrumentation and the American roots of disco and funk. The album became so popular and admired that it won several Grammy Awards. It was also the final album of Daft Punk, and it made them icons in genre-blending pop music.

The split of Daft Punk is a sad day for electronic music lovers. Perhaps, they will listen to all the music they created and remember the golden days today. It seems that 2021 is coming with news of splits only. The last split was of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West that made headlines when Kim filed for divorce a few days back.
