Daniel Ricciardo has launched a wine collection called DR3 x St Hugo. He is taking the assistance of the Chief Winemaker of St Hugo, Peter Munro, to ensure that he learns the ins and outs of winemaking.

So now we know that when Daniel Ricciardo is not gearing up for the upcoming Formula 1 seasons, he is busy learning about vineyard practices, maturation and blending, and enhancing his knowledge on how to create wines of exceptional character.

While announcing the new partnership, Daniel Ricciardo shared that he grew up in and around wine, and even his father was a “bit of a hobby winemaker.” He said, “I’m approaching the partnership in the same way I approach aspects of my racing. I may not be the same engineer who physically finesses the car, but I am the one who is driving it, and I have an instinct for what feels right. I share with the team to so the car can be optimised. With winemaking, I’ll take a similar approach, and in this instance, Peter is the engineer.”

The first release of the Daniel Ricciardo and St Hugo collaboration is available for purchase online from today for Australians. It includes bottles of 2014 Barossa Shiraz and 2015 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon that are individually numbered. When someone buys the two-bottles, they will get them in a premium gift box that might look attractive and is worthy of a show-off.

The tasting notes of the 2015 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon describe this as a wine that fully showcases the fruit which is grown in the Coonawarra region. It is also defined by layers of blackcurrant, slate, dark violets, graphite, and oak share. The tasting notes of the 2014 Barossa Shiraz, which is also the part of the DR3 x St Hugo collection revealed by Daniel Ricciardo, says that this wine has a “generous and full palate” with darker fruits that are supported by fine chalky tannins of significant length.
