David Attenborough Joins Instagram with a Stark Environmental Warning
He broke Jennifer Aniston’s Instagram world record in the process
Famed English Broadcaster Sir David Attenborough has joined Instagram and he’s arriving with a warning: “The world is in trouble.”
Attenborough, 94, doesn’t have a strong desire to join social media — in fact, in the caption of his first post, the intention was made quite clear. The veteran English broadcaster knows that the planet is in an extremely poor state, and in an era of short attention spans (We reckon it’s just plain ignorance, really.), Social media particularly, Instagram is one of the best ways to reach the youth (and everyone else) and make us actually listen. Or, as the caption of the post reads, “saving our planet is now a communications challenge.”
In a recorded message, he runs through the multiple catastrophic effects of climate change — but do not fret. He states that, he will release a series of yet to be published clips, he’ll specifically run through these en issues and provide a number of solutions on how we can collectively deal with them.
“I am making this move … because, as we all know, the world is in trouble,” Sir David Attenborough said. “Continents are on fire. Glaciers are melting. Coral reefs are dying … The list goes on and on,” he added.
He also said he is “tackling this new way of communication” because “we know what to do about” climate change issue “we just need the will”.

It’s also worh noting that in the process he broke the world record set by Jennifer Aniston.
The bid to spread his message to more people he’s joined the social media platform, where he’s already racked up more than three million followers.
When Aniston joined Instagram in October 2019 she announced her presence on the social media platform with a photo with her fellow cast in Friends hanging out together, raising one million IG followers in just five hours and 16 minutes according to Guinness World Records.
It might have helped that the photo went quite viral after fans noticed what they thought the activity in the photo might have been some recreational drug use (but likely it wasn’t).
Sir David Attenborough’s first Instagram post was uploaded a little over four hours before he passed the one million follower mark.
