Disney is finally going to “fairly compensate” the company’s talent regardless of the release arrangement of the movie. The news came from Bob Chapek, the current CEO of Disney, not long after Scarlett Johansson decided to file a lawsuit for the Black Widow release.

Scarlett Johansson lawsuit

Regarding this company decision, the CEO of Disney stated, “Since COVID has begun, we’ve entered hundreds of talent arrangements with our talent and by and large, they’ve gone very very smoothly, so we expect that that would be the case going forward.”

Not long ago, Scarlett Johansson decided to file a lawsuit against Disney for its hybrid release strategy. This would go against the original contract and would deprive Scarlett Johansson of the salary which was highly based on the film’s box office performance.

Around that time, Disney responded to the lawsuit, stating that it is “especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

According to Disney, Black Widow starring Scarlett Johansson resulted in US$60 million in sales during the opening weekend. At the same time, globally, the film has tallied almost US$359 million. Though, the platform has not shared much about the digital performance of the film.

On the other hand, other Marvel films have grossed more than $100 million in ticket sales alone and up to US$1 billion globally through the theatrical runs.

However, Bryan Lourd, the agent who took up this case added that the company is falsely and shamelessly accusing Scarlett Johansson of insensitivity, trying to portray her as someone that she is not.

While the CEO of Disney did not specifically name Scarlett Johansson or Black Widow in the current statement, he stated that the company is trying its best to ensure that everybody in the value chain gets their contractual commitments honoured from compensation and distribution perspective.

In other news, the new Stranger Things Season 4 Trailer has left the fans incredibly excited.
