Donald Trump Is Back on Twitter After a Ban Across Various Platforms

The incident that happened at the Capitol in the US was something shocking and unexpected. Soon after it happened, all the social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Snapchat banned US accounts of President Donald Trump as they considered his posts to be against their policies. A few hours after that, Twitter has lifted the ban on his account.

One of the reasons Twitter might have lifted the ban on Donald Trump’s social media account is that his latest tweet is vastly different from the ones he had posted for many months. In his latest video, the President ensured a smooth transition of power. He said “Now that Congress has certified the results, a new administration will be inaugurated on January 20. My focus now turns to ensuring a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power.”

Donald Trump also issued a similar statement regarding “an orderly transition” via the account of White House Social Media Director Dan Scavino. He also followed Twitter’s instructions and deleted some offensive tweets. About 12 hours after the tweets were deleted, Twitter lifted the ban. Twitter also made it clear that if Trump continues to violate Twitter rules, he might face a permanent ban.

Once Donald Trump leaves the White House on January 20, he will also lose “public interest” protections that were applied to his account when he was in the office. So, Twitter will find it easier to remove tweets that cross the line.

The bans started when Donald Trump used social media to claim that elections were stolen. It seems to be the cause behind the violence that happened at the Capitol by some violent extremists. The incident led to the loss of life of five people so far.

In addition to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat had also banned Donald Trump.

There is no word yet on when the other social media platforms would allow him access to his accounts.
