According to reports, electric vehicles by the company of Elon Musk, Tesla have been barred from entering military bases in China as the country fears that the vehicles might be used to spy on China by the US. Elon Musk has hit back on the allegations and said that his car-making company would be shut down if it spied on China or any other nation.

China’s Issue with Tesla vehicles of Elon Musk

Also according to reports, Chinese authorities’ key concern is that Tesla vehicles have many cameras, sensors, microphones, and location devices, among others. Hence, the information collected from these sources might be used to extract sensitive data. The Chinese government has failed to put forward any evidence that will substantiate espionage or spying claims.

The CEO of the company Elon Musk hit back at the allegations during a public forum. He stated, “There’s a very strong incentive for us to be very confidential with any information… if Tesla used cars to spy in China or anywhere, [it would] get shut down.”

It is likely that the banning of Tesla vehicles, if it happened, is retaliation because Biden Administration has put further restrictions on the sales of Huawei products in the US, which happened earlier this month.

If the ban has happened, it’s a big blow for Elon Musk. China is one of the biggest markets for Tesla. It sold 147, 445 vehicles in China. This number represents about 30 per cent of the total global delivery figure for 2020.

Tesla is also building cars in Shanghai, and a majority of these are even sold in Australia. This is perhaps the company, and Elon Musk has usually taken a different tone with China as compared with other staff. Tesla has apologized after one of the company’s staff blamed the electrical grid of China for damaging the vehicle of a customer. In a video, Tesla said, “We are deeply sorry for the misunderstanding and would like to apologize to the Nanchang Power Grid for the inconvenience caused.”

Elon Musk has been harsh with the US authorities before. He hung up on a call with the Chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board. Talking about Tesla and cars, do you know that the 2021 Pagani Huayra R is releasing soon, and it’s a celebration of passion.
