Tesla Roadster – Elon Musk

Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, has constantly expressed the desire to offer a rocket thruster package to increase the speed of Tesla Roadster. Recently he stated that he wants to use the thrusters to ensure that the Tesla Roadster hovers as well.

Elon Musk discusses plans for the Tesla Roadster on The Joe Rogan Experience

Talking to Joe Rogan, Elon Musk said “I want it to hover, and I was trying to figure out how to make this thing hover without, you know, killing people. Maybe it can hover like a meter above the ground, or something like that. If you plummet it’ll blow out the suspension but you’re not gonna die.”

Though Elon Musk’s idea is amazing, it would surely be problematic for safety regulators when the new Tesla Roadster is launched in 2022.

This is not the first time Elon Musk is pushing the boundaries. Before Tesla Roadster, the redesigned Model X SUV and Model S Sedan that were announced last month had a U-shaped yoke steering wheel. It came as a surprise for National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In addition to having the unique wheels, the vehicles will also shift automatically between reverse, park, drive and neutral.

When Rogan asked Elon Musk whether the steering wheel was legal, he said “Yeah, I mean they use a yoke in Formula One. To this Rogan said “Yeah, but you’re not on the highway in a Formula One car. I like driving like this, resting my hand on the top of the wheel.”

Elon Musk said “Well, Autopilot is getting good enough that you won’t need to drive most of the time. I find you can rest your hand on your knee… it works great.”

If what Musk is saying about Tesla Roadster happens, it would probably be a part of the Roadster SpaceX package. He has been talking about it for some time now. If it happens, it will also ensure the removal of the back seat so that the old air thrusters can be added.

Till now, Elon Musk has not guaranteed that hovering Tesla Roadster would be possible. So, we must wait and watch!
