Eminem has purchased a Bored Ape NFT that costs about 123.4 ETh (AU$642,000). He also made it his new profile picture on Twitter. What’s special about the NFT is that it has an uncanny resemblance to the 49-year-old’s iconic head. It is the reason people called it “EminApe” online.

GeeGazza, an NFT collector, sold the Bored Ape. He has been yearning for Eminem to buy it from him. In November this year, he posted to Twitter and wrote, “I still think @Eminem is destined to buy my @BoredApeYC one day.” His dream became a reality last Thursday. Mentioning it on Twitter, he wrote, “I’m living in a simulation. Thank you @Eminem for buying my ape and joining the club! Madness. Let me write a lyric in your next single 藍.”

Digital creative Agency 6 helped Eminem to secure the deal. It is an agency that guides brands, musicians, and visual artists in the NFT space. Before Eminem, the agency had worked with other celebs too. The list includes Galantis, Wu-Tang Clan, and Tycho. The American rapper is not new to digital collectibles as he already owns 15 NFTs on OpenSea under the name Shady holdings. However, this is the highest amount he has paid for an NFT.

In addition to digital collectibles, Eminem also has invested in a sneaker start-up StockX and Mom’s Spaghetti, a diner/merchandise store in Detroit that was launched recently.

With the EminApe, Eminem has also joined the second-largest NFT project on OpenSea by volume. According to reliable data, only the BAYC has traded 284,765 ETH ($977.6 million) so far in secondary sales. The floor price is currently sitting at 60 ETH ($220,000).

Eminem has also joined the growing list of celebrities who have aped so far with the purchase. The list includes talk show host Jimmy Fallon and NBA star Stephen Curry. Bored Apes is also doing well. It surpassed CryptoPunks in floor price, which is a major achievement when considering that the project just started in April 2021. Overall, it seems like the popularity of NFTs is on the rise.
