Hennessey Performance

Hennessey Performance built a lot of anticipation about the latest F5 hypercar by first debuting the static prototype at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in 2017 and then holding a premiere of the custom-made engine of the car at the Quail Motorsports Gathering in 2018. Today, the car- Hennessey Venom F5 was officially unveiled, and it seems to be worth the wait.

The Hennessey Venom F5 has a carbon-fibre monocoque that will be combined with a twin-turbo 6.6-litre V8 that is nicknamed as ‘Fury.’ The 90-degree engine uses a cast-iron block and aluminium cylinder heads that feature Inconel exhaust valves and titanium intake. Billet steel is used for making the camshaft and the crank. The connecting pistons and rods are forged.

The turbos make use of the 76mm compressor wheels in housings. They have been 3D printed from titanium and have the capacity of delivering up to 23psi of boost. The Hennessey Venom F5 can produce 1355kW of power at 8000rpm. People can also expect 1617Nm of torque at 5000rpm.

The weight of Hennessey Venom F5 is 1385 kgs which is mainly due to the carbon-fibre bodywork and a lack of fripperies. The car will reach 0-100km/h in just 2.6 seconds and 0-200km/h in 4.7 seconds. It can also reach 0-300km/h in 8.4 seconds the remarkable 0-400km/h in only 15.5 seconds.

Talking about the challenges faced by the company in creating Hennessey Venom F5 and the role of COVID-19, the founder and CEO of Hennessey Performance, John Hennessey said “It’s the same greatest challenge we’ve all been dealing with for the last nine months—Covid. It affected our supply chain, especially when we’re working with suppliers from Texas, California, England, and Italy. When we found out in September that we weren’t going to get the last component—the steering wheel—until November 26, we focused on what to refine. Our design director and team were able to load the car with lots of amazing details and Easter eggs. In a way, Covid forced us to slow down and take more time on the interior, really take it to another level.”

The top speed of Hennessey Venom is targeted to be more than 500km/h. Only 24 pieces of the car will be built, and the pre-tax price of the car would be USD 2.1 million (About AUD 2.79 million). Half of these have already been assigned to buyers. Though the left and right-hand drive would be available, it is unlikely that the car will be available in Australia. So, if you are an Aussie and you want a Hennessey Venom, you probably must wait for picking one of the other supercars the company is planning to build beyond the F5. In other automotive industry news, Maserati is planning to electrify all its vehicles by 2025.
