Ewan McGregor, Cate Blanchett and More Cast in Del Toro’s Pinocchio

Netflix unveiled the cast of the new Pinocchio stop-motion film

Remember the story of Pinocchio we all liked as kids? The popular tale will be retold soon, not once but twice. The first is a live-action Disney film that is directed by Robert Zemeckis and would probably star Tom Hanks. Another is Guillermo del Toro’s dream project that he has been making for Netflix and would include star voice actors like Ewan McGregor.

 

The entire voice cast of Netflix’s Pinocchio was announced recently. It stars Ewan McGregor as Cricket, Gregory Mann as Pinocchio, and David Bradley as Geppetto. The list also extends to

Tilda Swinton, Finn Wolfhard, Christoph Waltz, Cate Blanchett, Ron Perlman, John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson, and Burn Gorman. Unlike Ewan McGregor, Netflix has not revealed what roles they would be playing in Pinocchio.

 

While announcing the voice cast, which includes names like Ewan McGregor, Netflix also shared that the principal photography of the project started last fall, and the production continued during the pandemic as well. It is great news considering how other shows’ production schedules have been impacted.

 

Talking about his dream project Pinocchio, Toro said, “After years of pursuing this dream project, I found my perfect partner in Netflix. We have spent a long time curating a remarkable cast and crew and have been blessed by continuous support from Netflix to quietly and carefully soldier on, barely missing a beat. We all love and practice animation with great passion and believe it to be the ideal medium to retell this classic story in a completely new way.”

 

If you are a fan of Pinocchio and you are excited that the voice cast includes names like Ewan McGregor, then you need to wait for the release date. It was to be released in 2021, but now the pandemic situation might change Netflix’s plans. The company might release it in 2021 or wait for lives to resume before releasing the same.
