Fake Supreme: Supreme Italia Owners Receive Jailtime and Massive Fine

Do you remember the Supreme Italia brand? The fake Supreme has been in operation for several years. Though, the original Supreme has had enough and just won a lawsuit against the father-son duo that started the fake brand.

The fake Supreme

Supreme Italia sold many merchandise over the last few years. Back in 2019, the company opened a store in Shanghai. However, just a year ago, the real Supreme secured a trademark in China.

After that, the fake Supreme had to get booted out of China. Though, Supreme had other plans. The Billion-dollar brand went on to file a big court case against both Michele di Pierro and his son Marcello, hence ending the storyline of the bootleg brand.

According to Bloomberg, a London court sentenced both Marcello and Michele to 3 and 8 years in jail after finding them guilty of committing fraud. But that is not all. Both the father-son duo has been fined $13.77 (AUD) million for damages to the Supreme brand.

Regarding this, Martin Beddoe, the Judge who passed the sentence stated that the fathom son duo “hijacked every facet of the company’s identity and plagiarized it.”

He further stated, “The brazenness of the offending is as remarkable as the dishonesty.”

The fake Supreme has been signing major copyright deals throughout the world since 2015. Technically, this move was not illegal but was still considered bad. At one point, even Samsung fell for it and almost collaborated with the fake Supreme.

Though, in 2019, Michele said that he “did it in good faith.” He further added, “I didn’t know [Supreme] even existed. It was not popular in Italy. There was not even a store.”

While the father-son duo was not present during the trial, they now have an arrest warrant. It is unclear whether Supreme will even receive the massive fine money since the fake Supreme has only 300 pounds in the account.

Nevertheless, Supreme must be satisfied with the victory as the company aims to grab more counterfeiters in the future.
