Game of Thrones: House Targaryen Prequel is in the Works
Game of Thrones – HBO

Game of Thrones has been one of the most iconic shows in the history of television, and most of the fans can’t help but look forward to more of the fascinating world. Even though the Game of Thrones finale was a bit of a mess, the loyal fans of the show are eagerly waiting for learning about more aspects of Westeros via prequels. Such fans can rejoice as reliable sources have reported that a House Targaryen prequel is already in the works.

Game of Thrones, a show that has 32 Emmy nominations is a rare jewel. It is the reason why HBO is planning on five prequels based on it. One of these prequels will be based on Fire and Blood, a book by George RR Martin that was released last year. The prequel would soon get a pilot order and will be made by Martin and Ryan Condal. It will be set about 300 years before the events shown in Game of Thrones and will track the beginnings of the end for dragon loving house, House Targaryen.

Though the network declined to comment on the matter, reports say that the show has been in the works since last fall. If so, this Game of Thrones prequel might hit the screens sooner rather than later. It will not be a sixth prequel but another take on a prequel planned to be helmed by Cogman, who in April confirmed that his prequel idea would not be going forward.

Game of Thrones fans who read Martin’s blog regularly shouldn’t be surprised by the news that a Targaryen prequel is in the works. The author has dropped hints regarding the same already. In May, He wrote, “We have had five different Game of Thrones successor shows in development at HBO, and three of them are still moving forward nicely. Two other shows remain in the script stage, but are edging closer. What are they about? I cannot say. But maybe some of you should pick up a copy of Fire & Blood and come up with your own theories.”

Another big hint was the fact that a large image of Fire & Blood cover was added just above this section in the same post and it had a note stressing on the book’s success as it re-entered New York Times’ Top 10 bestseller after already spending more than three months on the list previously. “You can’t keep a good dragon down,” Martin wrote about the achievement. The book has the tagline “300 Years Before a Game of Thrones, Dragons Ruled Westeros” which makes it obvious it’s all about the Targaryen history.

What do you think of the Game of Thrones Targaryen prequel? Would it be as exciting as the original series?
