According to Pemex, nobody has sustained any injury. However, the Gulf of Mexico fire has certainly not spared the planet. Experts say that the gas leakage occurred on Friday, at 137.16 meters from the drilling platform which caused the ocean fire.

Furthermore, the company also stated that the ocean fire was controlled within 5 hours. The Gulf of Mexico incident was covered by all media outlets all over the world, with countless people talking about the bizarre sight on platforms like Twitter and Reddit.

People on social media named the ocean fire, “eye of fire” due to its unique appearance. After all, nobody has seen lava-like fire blazing out of the ocean before, let alone the Gulf of Mexico.

Pemex also added that the production remained unaffected. With that, the company has started further investigations into the incident to determine the exact cause of the fire and the events that led to it.

Eventually, the pipelines were shut down. Right after that, the Head of oil safety regulator, Angel Carrizales, tweeted that the accident, “did not generate any spill”. Though, he did not say much about the burning fuel.

According to the incident report by Pemex, “The turbomachinery of Ku Maloob Zaap’s active production facilities were affected by an electrical storm and heavy rains.”

The report also stated that nitrogen was used to control the fire. This is something that everyone was curious about. For instance, people on Twitter kept asking how the ocean fire could be controlled.

This is not the first time there has been an accident on one of Pemex’s sites. The company has a record of industrial malfunctions.
