Hennessy Enters The NFT Space With Two Cognac NFTs
Each will represent physical and digital ownership of the first and last bottles of Hennessy 8.
Hennessy has partnered with the first NFT marketplace for wine and spirits, BlockBar, to offer people the opportunity to appreciate a rare Cognac and a VIP visit to the estate. It is the first time the French distillery’s first foray into the world of NFTs. One lucky Cognac enthusiast will get the brandy in physical and digital form.
The Hennessy NFT
The NFTs will be dropping this Wednesday and can be acquired by only one collector by spending US$226,000 (AU$315,388). After purchase, the buyer can trade the two NFT versions within the BlockBar marketplace and have the two bottles of the Cognac delivered to their doorstep. The person will also get a complimentary trip to the Hennessy estate located in Cognac, France.
The real-life Cognac is christened as Hennessy 8. It was crafted using one eau de vie from eight generations of master blenders. It’s the brainchild of master blender Renaud Fillioux de Gironde and was originally released in 2017. Only 250 bottles of this Cognac are available. The carafes that are included with this NFT are the first and last. They are individually numbered “1” and “250.”
The hand-blown Baccarat crystal carafes also feature eight striking inset rings that honour each master blender and eau de vie. Each bottle also comes with a personalized authentication plate and sits inside a wooden chest that can only be opened with a special copper key. The chest in itself is a beauty. It’s designed by Arik Levy and has 25 layers of Oak that were sourced from the Hennessy cooperage.
The person who buys the NFT will also get an elegant toolbox housing four tasting glasses that are designed by glassmaker Georg Riedel and Hennessy’s former master blender Yann Fillioux. They will also get a cork holder and a pipette made of oak barrel wood.
The co-founder of BlockBar, Dov Falic, stated, “Hennessy is renowned for innovation and passing down know-how from one generation to the next, so we’re honoured the Maison has chosen to partner with BlockBar to mark this innovative milestone with its first NFT.” The sale will open at 9.30 EST on Wednesday, January 12, on BlockBar.
