Apple has always been a master at unveiling latest technologies and features at its World Wide Developers Conference. This year, the conference was held at San Jose, California on Monday. It revealed the latest technologies like the dark mode while it bade goodbye to the old iTunes. What else happened at WWDC 2019? Read on to know

The Dark Mode is Here

Here’s Everything that Happened at Apple's WWDC 2019
New Dark mode – Apple WWDC 2019

Dark mode of iOS has been made official now. iPads, iPhones, and iPod touch will have a dark mode that is easier on the eyes when you use the device in a dimly-lit environment. This is an important announcement of WWDC 2019 but not the only health-oriented one.

Important App Updates

Also, a lot of apps have gotten small but significant updates at WWDC 2019. The music app has a lyric mode while Messages now have swipe texting. The phone app has a photo soring mode, and maps show more detailed maps than before. Developers will be able to access beta for iOS instantly while the public can get their hands on it in July. The final version will be released in the fall as per the details shared at WWDC 2019.

Multiuser Support by tvOS

tvOS by apple will provide multi-user support and show personalized recommendations based on the content you consume. The music playback UI will show live lyrics which follow along with the song. Apple has also announced at the WWDC 2019 that Apple Tv will now support third-party game accessories like PS4 and Xbox One controllers.

Better Security Protocols

Another important thing that occurred at WWDC 2019 was the introduction of better security measures to beat third-party offenders. Every time you use an app, you can decide whether you want to want to share your location information or not. You can now hide your real email id and let the company create a random one to pass on the information from the third parties to you. You can now sign in with Apple, just like you do with Facebook and Google and yet have better security than those too.

It was also announced at WWDC 2019 that Apple is working on creating a single sign-on feature which makes use of the Face ID authentication for signing in to different services and apps. Even HomeKit is getting a Secure Video mode that can encrypt video footages locally before sending the information to the cloud.

Siri to Sound More Human

You may or may not admit it, but most of us don’t like Siri’s voice very much. A solution to that was also unveiled at WWDC 2019. It’s all thanks to a neural text to speech technology, which is better than human-based recording used previously. Siri would also be able to read your incoming messages and respond to them ASAP. It will also work with third-party apps like Waze and Pandora to ensure that you get automated shortcuts.

The iPad OS

iPad fans must have a look at WWDC 2019 because it has a pleasant surprise for them. iPad is now recognized as its platform that has an iPad-specific system, which is a changed version of iOS. The Slide Over mode can be accessed by anyone by simply dragging up and to the side. You can also easily get split screen by dragging different apps side by side. The text editing features are also more advanced, and iPads now support USB thumb drives. File view is also simpler and allows easy sharing of folders on iCloud.

No iTunes

iTunes

One of the most progressive things that happened at WWDC 2019 is saying goodbye to iTunes in the latest version of macOS. Instead, the users will have three apps for TV, podcasts, and music. The Mac also supports a second display to those who own two Apple products and calls it Sidecar. iPad can be connected via wireless and wired connections.

Improved Voice Control

macOS and iOS will have voice control that allows you to take control over everything from opening the apps to editing the text. The Find My app will allow you to search your Apple device by using Bluetooth beacon even if the lost device is offline. Screen Time is coming to Mac too. All this was announced at WWDC 2019.

Access to Catalyst

Apple has announced during WWDC 2019 that it is giving developers access to Project Catalyst that helps them port iPad apps to Mac. Developers can check off Mac in Xcode to extend support over to Desktop OS.

Faster Coding

SwiftUI, a new framework has been added to make coding on Apple’s coding language faster. A person can drag and drop content into the preview of the app and begin building it without the need of manual typing. International languages support is also there. It also has a dark mode and can be used to build Apple OS apps without many lines of codes, which is a treat for developers who were looking forward to something good at WWDC 2019.

The New Launch

The new Mac Pro – Apple

WWDC 2019 would have felt incomplete without at least one new launch. Apple didn’t let us down in this regard as it launched a new Mac Pro that has been redesigned to be more angular, supports up to 1.5 TB of memory and an Intel Xeon processor with a maximum of 28 cores.

It also has eight PCI slots, six memory expansion slots, three Thunderbolt ports, and two each of USB A and USB C ports. The monitor is a 32-inch LCD screen, 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and Retina 6K display. It supports AMD Radeon Pro 580X or the Radeon Pro Vega II. It can even support two Vega IIs. The device would be available later this year and would be quite expensive.

A Dedicated App Store for watchOS

Another important announcement at WWDC 2019 was the watchOS 6 update. It will have its dedicated app store, and the device will also have a few new apps like calculator app and a memo app. New Health and Fitness updates and menstrual cycle tracking for female health and wellness will also be there. A new Noise app will also be there that will warn you if you are in a sound environment that has decibels which are too high and might harm your hearing.

Announcement of ARKit 3

Developers who work in augmented reality would be pleased to know the announcement of ARKit 3 at WWDC 2019. A People Occlusion feature is worthy of mentioning as it can recognize people inside an AR environment. It also lets a developer layer visual content behind them or in front of them. There is also a Motion Capture that detects real-life movements automatically and uses it for rendering 3D models. You can even put yourself in the AR version of Minecraft to make the kids smile.

What do you think of the announcements made at WWDC 2019? Did you expect something more?
