It seems like it was just yesterday when the Game of Thrones finally aired. Now, the much-awaited trailer for House of the Dragon is finally here. The highly anticipated series by HBO is a prequel to the widely popular Game of Thrones. The new show is also based on books by George RR Martin.

House of the Dragon

House of the Dragon is based on Fire & Blood. The events in this prequel series take place only 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. From what we already know, the plot of this series will follow the rule of the House Targaryen. We will see some prominent members of the house struggling for their legacy and name.

But that is not all. The series also features the fall of the dynasty. We will get a closer look at the Dance of the Dragons, which is a civil war that led to the downfall of the Targaryens.

The one thing that fans are most concerned about is whether House of the Dragon will compensate for the widely unloved ending of the original Game of Thrones series. We see some highly familiar locations in the trailer such as King’s Landing, the Throne Room, and Dragonstone. But since the series is set 200 years before the Game of Thrones events, the locations in the trailer look slightly different.

We can also expect to see more dragons in the show since they literally symbolize the Targaryen family. Furthermore, in the GOT lore, Targaryens are famous for using dragons in warfare. But unfortunately, the trailer shies away from dragons for some reason.

Nevertheless, the cast includes some notable actors. Paddy Considine will be playing the role of King Viserys I Targaryen. Similarly, Matt Smith will play the role of Prince Daemon Targaryen, the king’s brother. Other Targaryens belonging to the inner circle include Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), and the Hand of King Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans).

Other cast in House of the Dragon includes Millicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno), Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, and Steve Toussaint.

House of the Dragon will premiere on 21st August 2021 exclusively on HBO Max.
