According to representatives at Instagram, this would allow an increasing number of people to make use of the app. According to Tzach Hadar, the product management director of Facebook in Tel Aviv says, “Instagram Lite uses a lot less data so if you have a small data package you are not going to run out when you use the service. But the aim is for us to give the same breadth of experience you get on Instagram.”

Furthermore, Hadar further stated that the new app, Instagram Lite will roll out in the Play Store in over 170 countries this week. At the same time, Vishai Shah, the Vice President of Product said in a tweet, “We want more people around the world to enjoy a high quality Instagram experience, no matter what device or network they’re on.”

So, it is clear that the main purpose of this new application is to increase the accessibility. For now, the application is available to download on the Android Play Store. However, the representatives at Instagram states that in the near future, an IOS version will also hit the Appstore.

Though, this will not be the first time Instagram has taken such an initiative. For instance, Instagram launched the Instagram Lite back in 2018. However, it was later pulled off from the Play Store.

According to Facebook, the new application will retain some of the features such as a ‘dark mode’. However, users will not be able to create reels. Although, they will be able to view them.

Furthermore the Instagram Lite will not feature any advertisements for. However, as time goes by, the application may expand further to include these functionalities.

But for now, the Instagram Lite app is limited in comparison to the original Instagram app. After all, it takes only 2 MB of space while its counterpart takes up to 30 MB.
