It’s Absurd: Toilet Paper Shortage is Getting Out of Hand

The coronavirus scare is getting worse with time, and people’s panic levels are also rising. One of the results of panic is that people are stocking up on things they think they might need. A popular product that has been hoarded by people is toilet paper. Yes, things have gotten so bad that toilet paper and other essentials are going out of stock quickly and are hence, being sold at unreasonable prices. Online and offline marketplaces are finding it hard to help people calm down.

The Toilet Paper Crisis

The toilet paper shortage is getting out of hand. The Prime Minister and the manufacturers of toilet paper have stated in strong terms that toilet paper shortage won’t be there, but still, people are buying it in bulk, and as a result, needy people are not getting any. National supermarket chain Coles earlier restricted the sale of toilet paper to four per person, and now it has been reduced to just one per person. This obsession must stop as stocking up on toilet paper which leads to toilet paper shortage and depriving those who need is not the answer to how to become an alpha male.

The Facebook Problem

In addition to toilet paper shortage, the mania for face masks is also increasing. One of the biggest social media platforms, Facebook is also taking steps to ban ads and commercial listings for face masks as it is leading to coronavirus related exploitation. It would also be useful if Facebook banned videos telling people how to make a hand sanitiser as it’s not a good idea.

Lives at Risk

The panic spread by people and the increased demand for important stuff is harming the lives of other people. The WHO stated on Tuesday that people are buying face masks and other stuff which is leading to a shortage of protective gear that is meant for health care workers. So, many lives are at risk.

E-Commerce Exaggerated Prices

The prices of listings of important stuff like face masks, toilet papers, disinfectant wipes, hand sanitisers among others are also going up on e-commerce sites like eBay and Amazon. They are being sold for thousands of dollars, which is absurd. The toilet paper shortage is so severe that a 48-roll pack is listed for AUD 100,000 on eBay. The e-commerce giants are removing all such ads and listings. Still, a lot needs to be done as there were many such listings available at the time of writing this article.

We also appeal our readers to remain calm and think of others before hoarding stuff because toilet paper shortage or any shortage would be bad news for those who don’t have these essentials. Stop being so selfish mates!
