Jack Dorsey Shares Square has a New Business, TBD
The name is quite confusing
The CEO of Twitter and Square, Jack Dorsey, seems to be a big fan of cryptocurrency. After ensuring that Square is pushed into the cryptocurrency arena via a hardware wallet, he has some other plans. The company is creating a new business that will go with existing units such as Cash App and Tidal. It is named TBD, and we are all confused.

In a tweet, Jack Dorsey claimed that TBD would be “focused on building an open developer platform with the sole goal of making it easy to create non-custodial, permissionless, and decentralized financial services.” The confusion here is that TBD is an abbreviation of the words to be determined. So, we are not sure whether the name is actually TBD or will be determined later on.
Sadly, Square declined to comment on this matter till the time of publishing this article. Though the meaning of TBD is yet unidentified, a team for it is already forming. The new leader of the unit Mike Brock recently tweeted out many names of the founding team of TBD. He also said that he is “super excited to return to the world of open source.”
After one tweet about TBD, Jack Dorsey has been silent on the matter. We just hope that he might share more information on TBD via Twitter or GitHub accounts in the future. Brock, who is heading the Strategic Development Group at Cash App of Square Payments, might also share more details.
This is not the first time plans of making bitcoin more mainstream were shared. In June, Square executives stated that the company is working on a cryptocurrency wallet and software service.
In addition to TBD, Square also has three business lines, Tidal, Square Seller, and Cash App. Square is a San Francisco-based company that offers several digital payments and financial services. It was founded in 2009 and has set high standards for itself in the last decade.
