KANYE WEST COULD SOON BE FACING AN ELECTORAL FRAUD INVESTIGATION

The Presidential candidacy of Kanye West has been an unpredictable event. He announced his decision to join the race of the next US President suddenly and then apparently removed himself after the numbers didn’t turn to his advantage in the prominent polls. Now, it has been confirmed that the petition he filed to be on the ballot had invalid signatures, which could be ground for electoral fraud. But will he end up jail for it?

Several reports have confirmed that Kanye West’s name would be taken off the ballot in Illinois. The main reason for this decision could be the news that more than half of the signatures submitted by his team were invalid. A review that examined the legitimacy of Kanye West’s petition to be on the ballot has unveiled that 1,928 signatures from 3,128 were flagged as invalid. A minimum of 2,500 signatures is needed to add a name officially to the ballot.

Though it’s not clear why the names on Kanye West’s petition were invalid, a few reasons could be non-registered voters, illegible names, or people offering fake addresses or names. It is almost certain that Kanye West’s name would be removed from the ballot on August 21, 2020. Election experts believe that he might also face an election-fraud investigation.

Could Kanye West End Up in a Jail?

If signatures on the ballots were found to be fraudulent, it is unlikely that the rapper would serve time. The usual penalty for voter registration fraud is up to 3 years in prison, but West probably won’t face that. Operatives who are found guilty of misleading voters or who falsified the signatures are more likely to face the charges.

These kinds of frauds are a serious threat to democracy as the presidential elections are already facing challenges like fewer polling sites, the coronavirus pandemic and discriminatory voter ID laws.

Many followers were already disappointed with Kanye West’s campaign and now news of this electoral fraud might socially pull him down further.
