Kanye West Sues Walmart for Selling YEEZY Foam Runner Knockoffs
Walmart already acted on the issue
Kanye West is peeved, and the reason is quite clear. Walmart is selling fakes of one of his latest shoe designs, the YEEZY Foam Runners. So, he has sued Walmart and has filed a lawsuit in the Los Angeles County Superior Court and has cited the Unfair Competition Law of California as it prohibits deceptive business practices.
Kanye West sues Walmart
The lawsuit filed by Kanye West’s team claims that the move by Walmart can cost hundreds of millions of dollars to the popular rapper. The reason is quite simple, people can easily confuse the imitated YEEZY Foam Runners as the originals and buy them instead of buying the genuine products.
The filing by Kanye West’s team states, “Consumers are purchasing the imitation Yeezy Foam Runner footwear from Walmart on the mistaken belief that the shoes are associated with West and the Yeezy brand.”
Since the news of the lawsuit filed by Kanye West’s team broke, Walmart already acted on the issue. As a result, the imitated YEEZY Foam Runners are not available on the website. If you search for them, you will come up with results on “backorder” or “unavailable.” However, Walmart’s Daeful Mens Women’s Kids Summer Beach Foam Runner Anti Slipper Sandals Casual are still available, but they are available in different colours. They do have a similar shape and teardrop cut-outs that are identical to the genuine ones.
Introduced in June 2020, the YEEZY Foam Runners cost about USD 75 per pair. However, their value increases at the time of resale, where they are sold for as much as USD 800.
Talking about the lawsuit filed by Kanye West’s team about imitated YEEZY Foam Runners, a Walmart spokesperson stated, “The product referenced in the complaint is not sold by Walmart, but rather by third-party marketplace sellers. We take allegations like this seriously and are reviewing the claim. We will respond in court as appropriate after we have been served with the complaint.”
It should be noted here that several other websites are also selling YEEZY Foam Runners knockoffs and Kanye West, and his team are yet to take any legal action on that.
