While it might sound weird, North Korea just banned mullet hairstyles, lip piercings, and skinny jeans. Kim Jong-Un has certainly taken a very bold step by cracking down on the trends to prevent the “western” lifestyle from becoming mainstream.

Not only that, but Kim Jong-Un also banned slogan T-shirts, nose rings, and ripped jeans. According to him, these are all a sign of capitalist societies.

Kim Jong-Un on North Korean Lifestyle

The new ruling was announced in the Rondong Sinmun, a popular newspaper in North Korea. The newspaper stated, “History teaches us a crucial lesson that a country can become vulnerable and eventually collapse like a damp wall regardless of its economic and defence power if we do not hold on to our lifestyle.”

Furthermore, the newspaper also suggested that citizens of North Korea fight the capitalistic lifestyle and eradicate every sign of it. This is not the first time North Korea has attempted to exert a high amount of control on its citizens. It is just a part of the many measures that Kim Jong-Un has taken to maintain the status quo.

Barbers in North Korea will allow citizens to choose from 15 approved hairstyles. On the other hand, exotic hairstyles such as rainbow highlights, mullets, and a mohawk are not on the list of any barbershop in the country. At the same time, Kim Jong-Un has also placed restrictions on the consumption of Western videos and magazines.

The mullet hairstyle has been popular in recent times. We could see that 80s look coming back to life in movies and television shows. Tony Copeland had previously predicted the mullets becoming popular in 2021, and he was surprisingly right.

He stated, “The modern mullet is only going to get bigger in 2021”. However, North Korea does not seem amused by this idea. Kim Jong-Un would rather prefer everyone stick with the iconic 15 North Korean hairstyles.

These hairstyles approved by Jim Jong-Un are rather simple-looking, though. Are you too looking for simple ways to improve your style? Luckily, you do not always have to go overboard with style elements. There are plenty of simple yet trendy styles for your to adopt.
