Lewis Hamilton, a popular F1 player with seven Formula 1 world championships to his name, has gotten another accolade. He has received knighthood at Windsor Castle. This development has taken place a few days after he came close to winning the eighth drivers’ championship in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix that became controversial instantly.

The F1 star has received his knighthood from Prince Charles. Hamilton also made it to the 2021 New Year Honours List after equalling Michael Schumacher’s seven F1 championships in 2020. He attended the knighthood ceremony with Carmen Lockhart, his mother.

After the knighthood ceremony, the Mercedes driver didn’t speak to the reporters. He just posed for the pictures in the quadrangle at Windsor Castle. He is the fourth F1 driver who received the knighthood. The other three were Stirling Moss, Jackie Stewart, and an Australian Jack Brabham.

Interestingly, Hamilton is the first to get this honour while he is still competing. The knighthood means he has now got the honorary title “Sir.”

Lewis Hamilton is expected to attend the official prize-giving ceremony of F1 in Paris this Thursday, although his team is actively contesting the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix result. Hamilton had a lead of over 10 seconds in the race when a late safety car sent the match into chaos.

Hamilton didn’t have time to come into the pits for new tyres and still manage to lead the race, but Verstappen had that luxury in the second place. The Race Director, Michael Masi, made a controversial decision that allowed lapped cars between Verstappen and Hamilton, which seemingly contravened the sport’s regulations.

Due to this, Verstappen overtook Hamilton in the final lap and won his first-ever drivers’ championship. Mercedes lodged two protests, but both of them were dismissed. Now, Mercedes is planning to appeal both of those dismissals. Fans hope that the new knighthood might help Hamilton get over the lose and move on.
