Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, we have been flooded by the newly invented face masks that claim to do more than just protect you and the people around you from the deadly virus. The latest addition to the list is a new air purifier mask by LG that comes with two H13 HEPA filters and claims to protect you from airborne pathogens. The company wants to start selling the PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier, a battery-powered lightweight mask by the end of this year.

The main goal behind the creation of the new air purifier mask by LG was to solve two problems. First, it aimed to solve the problem of scarcity of disposable medical-grade masks. Second, it wanted to offer a better solution than the inconsistency of home-made masks. The mask by LG is a reusable device that has two fans and a pair of air filters. The fans are controlled by a respiratory sensor, which measures the volume and speed of your breathing to adjust the speed accordingly to ensure that wearing the mask doesn’t add any extra burden to the breathing process.

It is claimed that the new air purifier mask by LG can work for up to 8 hours in low power mode while working for just two hours in high power mode. It comes with a rechargeable 820mAh battery and storage case equipped ultraviolet LED lights that can clean its surface while the face mask is charging.

Dan Song, the President of LG’s Home Appliances Division, talked about the air purifier mask and stated. “The PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier is an exciting addition to our growing line-up of products designed to deliver meaningful health and hygiene benefits. At a time when consumers are seeking ways to make life safer and more convenient, it’s important that we’re able to offer solutions that add measurable value.”

Though the air purifier mask might seem ideal to some, it is not useful during the ongoing pandemic as it fails to protect people around the wearer. So, if you are infected with COVID-19 and you are asymptomatic, you might pass on the disease to people around you without knowing it even if you are wearing the LG’s new mask. This air purifier mask is only useful in situations like forest fires where air can be toxic.

All in all, the air purifier mask by LG is not an ideal face mask for people who want to contain the spread of this deadly disease. As things are getting worse with the latest coronavirus update wherein reinfection has been detected in a Hong Kong’s man, we need a vaccine.
