However, an original special The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will precede that and will release on Disney+ in 2022. Groot will get his own series, I am Groot, that will have several shorts featuring “several new and unusual characters” alongside Baby Groot.

Chadwick Boseman is Not Replaced

The plans for Black Panther II were also announced. Marvel Studios has decided not to re-cast the late actor Chadwick Boseman, who played the role of King T’Challa of Wakanda. According Disney, the sequel “will explore the world of Wakanda and the rich characters introduced in the first film.” We think it is a smart move by Marvel Studios as the fans of the late actor are still recovering from a shock and probably would not like a replacement at this stage.

Ant-Man 3 is Coming

Ant-Man 3 or Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is in production, and the former cast is joined by Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang and Jonathan Majors who plays the role of Kang the Conqueror.

New Release Dates

Marvel Studios have changed the release dates of 4 films. Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in May 2022, Black Panther II will be released in July 2022 while Captain Marvel II will release in November 2022. Black Widow has been pushed a year by Marvel Studios and will release in May 2022 now.

Theatrical Releases Only

During the investor presentation, people were wondering whether Disney would send Black Widow or other upcoming Marvel films directly to Disney+ as it did with Mulan this year. Kevin Feige stated that Black Widow would be released in theatres only. Other films like Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings and Eternals will also be released in theatres in July and Nov 2021.

More Excitement to Look Forward to

Fiege said “Disney+ is key to the interconnection and expansion of the MCU. It will be home to both our feature films and our series for years to come.”

It is clear that Marvel Studios is trying to make up for the fact that 2020 was the first year since 2009 without a release for the studio. Even Disney wants to entertain the audience better than it had done this year. So, no matter whether you are missing the mischievousness of Loki or explore the Star Wars universe, you can expect some great entertainment in the future.
