Meet Deadpool’s Crazy Bunch, The X-Force

Merc with a Mouth (and now with a team)

The Deadpool 2 movie is set to open big and hit theaters this May 16, 2018.  But unlike his breakout solo film debut in 2016, he won’t be doing all the action alone.  Wade Wilson is forming his own crew of super mutants to try and do what the Avengers could not—overcome and win a victory over Josh Brolin!  Newcomers Bedlam, Domino, Zeigeist, Shatterstar, and Peter are joined by Deadpool’s former partners Colossus and Negasonic to form, in Deadpool’s very own words, the “super duper f*cking group”  X-Force.

So before you head to the cinemas for Deadpool 2, read up and get to know the X-Force.

Just a quick overview, along with Deadpool, X-Force was also created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza for Marvel Comics.  In the original comic version, X-Force was actually formed by Cable as a more aggressive version of the X-Men. Its original members were Domino, Shatterstar, Cannonball, Warpath, Feral, and Boom Boom with Deadpool coming in later forming the Uncanny X-Force.

The movie version takes some liberties from the group’s original story line with Deadpool leading the pack instead, trying to stop Cable from getting his hands on a young mutant portrayed by New Zealand actor Julian Dennison. The movie trailers doesn’t really show Cable intentions why he is after the mutant boy but we’re all guessing there’s something more than him just being a ravaging a**hole  (Rumor: there’s a popular fan theory that Cable is the anti-hero, which is actually more consistent with his comic book character, and that the real menace of the film is Juggernaut). The group’s character lineup is also slightly changed with new characters alongside fan favorites from the first installment.

Domino (Neena Thurman)

Played by: Zazie Beetz
Powers: Luck

SUBHEADING

As described in Marvel.com Domino’s superpowers as being able to “subliminally and psionically initiate random telekinetic acts that affect probability in her favor,” which basically means that she’s very lucky. A worthy note, however, she can’t really make impossible things happen, but she could somehow accurately swing the current negative situation to her advantage.  Her superpowers are also involuntary, most of the time triggered by stress or panic which is quite useful in a enemy confrontation or when she’s trying to retreat.

Bedlam (Jesse Aaronson)

Played by: Terry Crews
Powers: Emits an energy field that temporarily disrupts electrical systems in his vicinity

SUBHEADING

Jesse Aaronson was a young, mutant orphan who was rescued by Professor Charles Xavier’s Mutant Underground Support Engine (M.U.S.E) group and was trained as a field agent.  As a teenager, he left the group and partnered with Domino to look for his brother. Later, they found out that his brother was the super villain King Bedlam, leader of the New Hellions, who had the powers to disrupt the higher functions of the brain. Bedlam joined his brother’s group for a while but eventually left and was recruited by the X-Force to stop the New Hellions from resurrecting Armageddon Man.

Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Ellie Phimister)

Played by: Briana Hildebrand
Powers: Emanate energy from her body

SUBHEADING

The Negasonic Teenage Warhead character in the movie is different from the Marvel comics version of the character. Instead of having a telepathic ability, she emits massive amounts of energy from her own body effectively turning her into a living bomb.  Her movie debut was in the first Deadpool, as a member of the X-men, where she instantly became a fan favorite.  Again, she appears in this second movie installment, Deadpool 2  with more hair and more kickass attitude.

Shatterstar (Gaveedra Seven)

Played by: Lewis Tan
Powers: Ability to focus force blasts via special swords

SUBHEADING

In Marvel comics, Shatterstar is a mutant who was bio-engineered in the alien dimension Mojoworld. The main purpose of creation was to be a tournament combatant. He breaks free from his prison and promised revenge against Mojo, the ruler of Mojoworld. He gets the help of X-Force who promises to aid him in his mission.

Much like Zeitgeist, it is not clear how Deadpool 2 will treat the original story line and character of Shatterstar in the new movie.  Although he gets more screen time over Zeitgeist in the movie’s trailer, it’s still not enough information to  where exactly establish where they’re going with the character.

Zeitgeist (Axel Cluney)

Played by: Bill Skarsgard
Powers: Acidic vomit

SUBHEADING

Axel Cluney had one of the most traumatic experiences when he discovered his mutant powers. He was making out with a girl when his mutant abilities kicked in, releasing acidic vomit and burning his date’s face. Although the poor girl survived the accident, the experience would always burden him.

Little is still known about how Zeitgeist will be portrayed in the new movie, but knowing how the Deadpool franchise is into awkward heroes, we’re thinking they might just keep the Marvel comics origin story.
