The people of Melbourne have finally gotten something to cheer about. Victoria has reported only five coronavirus cases overnight, and it deserves some pat on the back. The DHHS announced this via twitter, and it is a reason for celebration. With this news, the rolling average has been reduced to just 20.3 cases of Metropolitan Melbourne and to 0.6 cases for regional Victoria.

Largely due to this recent reduction in coronavirus cases, Melbourne eased the restrictions earlier today. Here is how they will change.

Gatherings

The number of people who can gather now will increase from two to five only if they are from two different households. This limit does not include children who are less than 12 years of age. People who live alone will still have access to their bubble buddy. If unlawful gatherings take place, it can cost a fine of AUD 5,000.

Eating Out and Drinking

All the restaurants, cafes and bars will only be open for takeaway, not for dining in as the coronavirus cases have reduced, not eliminate completely.

Studying

VET and university students who need in-person teaching would be allowed to return to campus if they are in the final year. VCAL and VCE students would be allowed to go to school for assessments from October 5, 2020, and they can return to onsite classes from October 12, 2020. Even primary school students can go back from October 12, 2020. But years 7 to 10 students will need to learn from home only.

Working

People who can work from home need to stick to that to help keep the number of coronavirus cases low. However, a partial return to work would be allowed for some industries like childcare, manufacturing, postal, construction, wholesale trade, distribution services, gardening, landscaping, healthcare, higher education, and real estate.

Working Out

You can not just work out within 5 km radius of your home, you can work out within 5 km radius of your workplace too. Personal trainers would be allowed to train up to two people outdoors for a maximum of two hours each session. Some facilities like park equipment and outdoor pools might open with new restrictions as the coronavirus cases have gone down.

Face Masks

Face masks are still mandatory, and within the next two weeks, you will need to wear a properly fitted mask to help ensure that coronavirus cases do not go up again.
