TCL has revealed three concept phones to date

Most smartphone lovers agree that the first wave of foldable smartphones that have recently hit the market have failed to impress. Maybe because they are priced too high, perhaps because they have glitches and probably because they all have similar folding mechanisms. But there is one company that’s not following the simple line but doing something amazing. No, it’s not Apple but TCL. Yes, the company recently shared TCL foldable phone ideas and they are amazing!

 

While sharing the TCL foldable phone ideas, the company has revealed three main concepts and each of them has a different approach to the challenge of a folding phone. The first one will make you think of a Samsung Galaxy Fold as it has a book-like foldability. Thankfully, it doesn’t have a small gap that is exhibited in the Galaxy Fold when the screen is closed.

 

The second one among TCL foldable phone ideas is a tri-fold concept in which a 6.65-inch phone can transform into a 10-inch tablet and impress a user. It has two kinds of hinges, Butterfly Hinge and Dragon Hinge and they fold in opposite directions. Unlike a Huawei Mate X, this one comes with a feature of using one side as a grip while you use the other two sides of the device as the screen.

The third one among TCL foldable phone ideas is a rollable or slider concept in which the screen slides and expands from 6.75 inches to 7.8 inches. It is also only 9mm thick, which is only a bit thicker than the latest Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. When the screen isn’t fully deployed, it rolls back up inside part of the phone’s body. As a result, the gadget is less bulky when compared to other foldable devices. Creating a screen which can handle a tight bending radius is a big problem. Also keeping away dust or particles or scratches from the screen when it slides in and out could be a problem.

 

While showcasing the TCL foldable phone ideas, the company also released a PR that mentioned that the company has gone beyond the three design options that are shown. It read the products “are part of the company’s extensive development program leveraging TCL’s display manufacturing expertise, along with TCL-CSOT, which now includes more than three dozen different product designs.”
