An interesting incident happened with regard to the iconic Mona Lisa painting recently. A man disguised as an old woman who uses a wheelchair suddenly jumped out of the wheelchair to try to smear cream cake all over the painting.

Witnesses of this bizarre incident stated on social media that the person threw off his wig and tried to smear Mona Lisa with a cream cake. As many people visit the iconic painting daily, the entire event was caught on camera.

One of the eye-witnesses of the event admitted on Twitter that he couldn’t believe his eyes when the man made a dash for painting. He said, “Maybe this is just nuts to me, but a man dressed as an old lady jumped out of a wheelchair and attempted to smash the bulletproof glass of the Mona Lisa. [He] then proceeds to smear cake on the glass, and throws roses everywhere all before being tackled by security.”

As the vandal was led away by security officials, he started shouting about why he did it. He yelled, “Think of the earth, artists think of the earth. All artists think of the earth. That’s why I did it,” He added: “Think of the planet.”

Thankfully, the Mona Lisa painting is intact as it’s protected by bulletproof glass. So, Leonardo da Vinci’s most famous artwork is 100% unharmed by this incident. For those unaware, Mona Lisa was created between 1503 and 1519 by da Vinci. It is currently displayed in the busiest room at The Louvre.

Sadly, this isn’t the first time the iconic painting has been targeted. In 1956, the lower part of the Mona Lisa was severely damaged when a vandal doused the painting with acid. In 2009, an angry Russian woman threw a cup of tea at it. The cup shattered against the glass, and at that time also, the painting was undamaged. The iconic painting was also stolen in 1911 by Italian handyman Vincenzo Peruggia who returned it due to guilt about two years after the incident. The Louvre is yet to comment on the fresh incident.
