Netflix recently released a teaser trailer for Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area. Apparently, this is going to be a remake of the hit Spanish series La Casa de Papel. Quite recently, Money Heist wrapped up the last season on Netflix.

The remake in Korea will follow the same storyline along with the same characters. However, the changes will come in terms of a different language and a setting. Furthermore, the Korean remake of Money Heist is going to be 12 episodes instead of 15.

So, we might be getting a different story. However, fans are wondering why Netflix has decided to remake the series instead of telling a whole new story? Apparently, it is all about the money. People are in love with Money Heist.

The Spanish crime drama series is among the most-watched non-English shows on Netflix. Furthermore, part 4 of Money Heist is also the most watched show on Netflix. This was beaten by Squid Game, followed by Bridgerton. However, there is no doubt that Money Heist is among the most profitable shows for Netflix. It is also one of the most in-demand shows on the streaming platform.

For now, it looks like Netflix subscriptions have reached a saturation point in North America. So, it makes sense that the company would want to focus on international subscriptions. That is one of the main reasons why Netflix is so heavily interested in investing in Korea.

Among its recent investments include $500 million in Korea alone, in the year 2021. In the Asia Pacific region, Netflix hopes to get good growth as 60% of the world’s population belongs to this region. However, Netflix still does not operate in China, where 18% of the world’s population resides.

Korean entertainment is quite popular in Southeast Asia and in the East. So, for Netflix, this is a good opportunity to expand the profits over time. This is where a remake of the hit series Money Heist comes into play.

While fans may want to rewatch the Korean remake, old-time fans of the show still might rate the original higher than any remake simply due to nostalgia. But given the quality of Korean productions, the prospects seem good.
