Here’s a List of the Most Expensive Cities in the World in 2021
Tel Aviv is the world’s most expensive city to live in.

Many of us think that we live in the most expensive city in the world due to the rising price tags. If you, as an Australian, think that your city is quite expensive, you would be shocked to know that there is no Australian city that ranks in the top three most expensive cities across the globe for expats. It was made clear when the Economist Intelligence Unit or EIU shared the list of the most expensive cities in the world in 2021.

The EIU compared the data on the cost of living in cities around the world and came up with the list of the most expensive cities in the world. The top spot went to Israel’s hotspot Tel Aviv, which is also the real metropolis in the country. It is acknowledged as a gentrified, progressive, and trendy place for Israeli people. The cost of living in this city has risen exponentially due to many factors like rising costs of goods, recreation, and transport and extremely strong Shekel.

The list of the top 20 most expensive cities in the world includes two cities in Australia. Sydney grabs 14th place while the 16th position goes to Melbourne. Auckland was among the biggest movers on the list this year as it jumped 11 places and was 27 among the most expensive cities to live in.

The survey also highlighted that though petrol prices in Australia have been soaring recently, our country is still getting cheap petrol compared to most countries in Asia or Europe. A litre of petrol in Hong Kong will cost AU$ 3, and the fuel prices have risen to over 20% globally in the last year.

The survey that listed the most expensive cities in the world looked at 173 cities across five continents and compared day to day costs of living like food, housing, drink prices, recreation, transport, and even the cost of alcohol.
