Netflix Reveals the Most Popular Series and Films on the Platform
Based on the number of accounts that viewed the title and the total amount of time it was streamed
Netflix has confirmed a list of the most popular upcoming movies and TV shows. It is quite interesting since this is the first time the streaming platform has shared such information. Based on the recent reports, the chief content officer and co-CEO of Netflix, Ted Sarandos, revealed the list during the Vox Media Code Conference.
According to Sarandos, the Bridgerton Season 1 turned out to be the most popular show on Netflix. Other than that, Extraction became the film with the greatest number of clicks. On the other hand, Birdbox remained the most popular based on viewing hours.
But that is not all. Other Netflix shows and movies that made it to the top 10 list include The Witcher: Season 1, Army of the Dead, Spenser Confidential, Murder Mystery, Money Heist: Season 4, and Lupin: Part 1.
Regarding the information, Sarandos stated that Netflix is aiming to become more transparent in the market. Furthermore, he also stated that the streaming data of the platform is more like “a big black box, mostly.”
However, the most popular films and series were both ranked separately in their respective top 10 lists. The first slide of the reveal covered the top 10 series, while the second slide covered the top 10 films. And of course, these statistics are based on the first 28 days of being released on Netflix.
Defining whether a show or a movie is a hit is not that simple. Several numbers can be used to define that. For instance, production companies often focus on the number of times a movie was fully viewed.
Furthermore, they also consider the total number of people instead of the total number of accounts. Though, streaming platforms often like to play by their metrics. So, the list revealed by Netflix is based on the company’s individual standards.
