Netflix is Working On a Documentary Series About Tennis
The production is underway at the Australian Open
Netflix is working on a new docuseries covering professional tennis and players competing for major titles. According to a new report by Bloomberg, Netflix secured deals with the Association of Tennis players along with the Women’s Tennis Association.

Filming for the docuseries will begin during the Australian Open, which is set to begin on Monday. Followed by that, the U.S. Open, Wimbledon, and the French Open will also be featured in the documentary later.
Furthermore, Bloomberg has reported that the tennis docuseries will feature equal time for both women and men. Current controversy revolving around Djokovic Novak may also be covered. Since the player has not received his COVID-19 vaccination, Australian officials revoked his visa, due to which he could not travel to the Australian Open.
Bloomberg also referred to the popular racing show that Netflix created earlier called Formula 1: Drive to Survive, implying that it inspired more content about sports. Regarding the tennis docuseries, the Vice President Unscripted and Documentary Series at Netflix, Brandon Riegg stated, “We are excited to continue bolstering our lineup of sports programming with this behind-the-scenes documentary series.”
He further added, “Tennis is beloved all over the world, with high-stakes tournaments hopping across continents and athletes hailing from countless countries.”
Currently, Netflix has not confirmed which players will be featured in the documentary. However, the number four in the world, Stefanos Tsitsipas has confirmed his presence in the docuseries on Friday. He mentioned that he was among the first people to find out about the documentary. Stefanos further confirmed, “I’m very privileged to be in it.”
It looks like this tennis docuseries on Netflix will inspire a whole generation of passionate fans to take up the sport full-time. Furthermore, the company has also enlisted Box to Box Films, which is the same production company that brought us Drive to Survive F1 documentary.
After this, Netflix also has another documentary series in store for 2022 revolving around the PGA tour and the major men’s golf championships. This trend of documentary series about sports is indeed quite interesting and offers fans a deeper look into the sport that they dearly love.
