Nike has just launched Nike GO FlyEase, the first-ever hands-free sneakers. The innovative sneakers was launched by the Swoosh’s FlyEase department which specialises in accessible sneaker innovation. The instructional video of the new sneakers that was shared along with the official announcement from Nike shows exactly how to make the best of this innovation, and the design is quite impressive.

Nike GO FlyEase functions by using the kicking action many people use to get in and out of sneakers. The shoe has a midsole tensioner and a bi-stable hinge that helps a user to slide into and kick down the shoe to put it on. Similarly, a user can use kick up and slide out of the shoe when they want to take it off.

Though Nike GO FlyEase was earlier designed to help people with disabilities, the technology would surely be loved by all sneakerheads. Talking about it, Sarah Reinertsen, a Nike FlyEase designer and Paralympic athlete, said “We talked to women who were in their third trimester of pregnancy and bending over is not so easy. But this innovation makes it easier for her to kick on and kick off her shoes.”

As the design of the Nike GO FlyEase makes it a bit unstable and fragile, people might question its durability. Highlighting the durability of the shoe, Reinertsen said “This Tensioner Band is made out of something we’ve used for our outsoles. We’re applying it in a new way, but we still put it through rigorous wear-testing. We’re also doing it on machines, which put it through the ringer more than a human can.”

Nike GO FlyEase have existed for about five years now, and the department has made continual improvements to make it more accessible. The result is the brand’s first-ever hands-free shoe that might begin the sneaker innovation era and possibly increase the hype for streetwear and sneakers.
