Australians who have been craving for a vacation outside the country have finally got some good news. New Zealand has finally opened its borders for Australians and has allowed Aussies to get into the country and stay there without the need for quarantine. Read on to know more about this unique NZ travel bubble.

Details of the NZ travel bubble

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has stated that the NZ travel bubble will be in place from April 19 this year. In a press conference, she stated, “Cabinet was presented with advice today that conditions for opening up quarantine-free travel with Australia had been met.” This announcement was made a few months after NZ opened its borders with the Cook Islands.

The first condition of this new travel bubble is that Australian case numbers should stay low and will remain in place. New Zealanders have been allowed to travel to Australia without a quarantine. It had happened in several Australian states for months now (since October).

In the press conference, Ardern also said that New Zealand has to ensure there were contingencies in place if there was an outbreak in Australia. She said, “And it’s not a hypothetical. There have been several.” She added, “We would need to make arrangements to have potentially thousands of New Zealanders brought back to New Zealand in numbers that we wouldn’t be able to facilitate, necessarily, managed isolation.”

If you wonder which New Zealand states you can travel to while making the most of the NZ travel bubble, you should know you can fly to anywhere in New Zealand where the flights are operating.

The NZ travel bubble is beneficial for NZ and its economy as well. As per data, Australian tourism contributes AUD 2.5 ($NZ2.7) billion to the economy. If things go smoothly, NZ can still earn $NZ 1 billion.

The NZ travel bubble is a way for both the governments to test the situation and ensure that the tourism businesses get the money they need to sustain in the future. It can also give tourism businesses a taste of the post-COVID era and how a business needs to change in the future.
