OnlyFans Backflips on the Decision to Ban Sexually Explicit Content
OnlyFans

Not too long ago, OnlyFans announced its plans to ban explicit content on the platform. However, it turns out that the company has now decided to reverse the decision after realizing that the entire purpose of the platform was to let creators share their content with the fans.

On 19th August, OnlyFans publicly stated that no sexually explicit content will be allowed after October 1st, 2021. However, the immediate backlash from the community was huge. For instance, several sex workers decided to call quits to look for alternatives as their livelihood was in grave danger.

Even though OnlyFans has now reversed the decision, it might take a while to heal the broken trust. A platform that was once hailed as revolutionary for giving independent sex workers the freedom to earn through their content is now being called out for discrimination.

According to the platform, the main reason for banning sexually explicit content was that the app was failing to bring investors in. However, on Wednesday, OnlyFans stated that the company had, “secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community.”

However, it is important to remember that for now, OnlyFans has only suspended the ban. So, it is not clear whether the platform will allow sexual content in the long run. Furthermore, the company also did not respond to comment requests by reputable news sources.

Despite a suspension in the decision, sex workers that routinely rely on the platform have not celebrated just yet. Within a day or two, many sex workers said goodbye to the platform. Among them, many say that they have decided to quit OnlyFans altogether.

But that is not all, some sex workers have decided to protest against discrimination on 1st September 2021.

Due to the massive backlash, banning sexually explicit content may not be in the best interests of OnlyFans. After all, the platform became popular as a means of livelihood for sex workers. Currently, there is no information about whether this decision is final.
