It has been months since people are speculating about the new Pixel 6 models. Finally, the time is here! Google just unveiled the new Pixel 6 Pro and the base Pixel 6 phones. The previously floating rumours suggested that the new Pixel range will lack on many new features that should be there. That happened to be false. The Pixel range comes with a ton of upgrades. In fact, one of those has been proven wrong because the Pixel 6 Pro does have support for mmWave here in Australia.

According to Google, the Pixel 6 Pro and the base version bring the true power of Google’s AI, hardware, and software. Here, Google is aiming to expand its expertise in search engines to provide a helpful AI.

First thing first, the design of the new Pixel has been leaked several times over the last few months. However, despite the small similarities, Google has managed to maintain the originality of the new devices.

The latest flagship phones are, in a way, reminiscent of the past models. However, now the phones come in soft pastel colours, including Sorta Seafoam, Stormy Black, and Kinda Coral. Along with that, the Pixel 6 Pro version also comes in Cloudy White and Sorta Sunny.

Both the Pixel models come in a translucent frosted casing. As for the display, we get a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. According to Google, this glass is two times more resistant to scratches as compared with the previous models. Indeed, the new glass gives the phone a very luxurious feel.

Since Google seems to be targeting the sustainable market, the phones feature a recycled aluminium construction. Furthermore, the case also features materials that have been recycled.

The new Pixel models are IP68 water-resistant. This means that they can withstand dust and water. However, do not expect to get a warranty claim after submerging the phone in water.

mmWave Support

Now, to the most important part. Like 4G, 5G features various technologies that work together. Among these, mmWave (millimetre wave) is perhaps the most notable technology that is making 5G a reality. This is high-frequency and short-wave technology.

With the Pixel phones, we are seeing this technology being utilized in any phone for the first time ever. For instance, earlier this week, a telco was able to clock 3.6 Gbps using their 5G mmWave with a Pixel 6 Pro. So, the phone is certainly capable of speeds that might seem unimaginable to many people.

Impressive camera setup

The camera of the phone is impressive as well. The Pixel 6 features dual cameras comprising a 12 MP ultra-wide and a primary 50-megapixel camera. On the other hand, the Pro features a triple camera system consisting of a 4x zoom 48-megapixel telephoto camera, 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a primary 50-megapixel camera.

As compared with the Pixel 5, the new cameras of this Pixel range can capture 150 % more light. This means that users can achieve unmatched colour accuracy and vivid colours.

Magic Eraser

It’s worth noting that the Pixel 6 has Magic Eraser. The Magic Eraser feature will automatically recommend objects to remove with just a tap, or you can circle an object to remove it. This works for cars, photobombers or anything really.

Other improvements that have been brought to the cameras include long exposure, face unblur, and significant enhancement in the video.

Tensor Chip

Google announced in August that the Pixel 6 will have its new Tensor chip, which has been custom-designed by Google to provide significantly improved AI and machine learning performance.

Google’s Pixel s always about the software. The new features stored into the Pixel 6 wouldn’t be possible without Google’s Tensor chip, which enables a more accurate on-device voice model while also consuming 50 per cent less power than before.

Titan M2

Now, coming to Security, Google claims that the Pixel 6 phones are the most secure phones to date. For instance, the new phones pack a Titan M2 security chip alongside the Tensor. This means that sensitive processes involving authentication can be offloaded to the security hardware. So, your passwords and credit card information are not more secure than ever.

The new security hub on the phone makes it significantly easier for users to manage their security settings and to keep themselves safe from Malware. Along with that, Google is also offering 5+ years of security updates, which is big for an Android smartphone.

Fast Charge

The Google Pixel 6 range is capable of 30W fast charge, with adaptive charging. Adaptive charging manages the phone charging  to preserve long term battery health.

Speech Recognition and Live Translate

The voice assistance of the Pixel 6 is smarter, you can now auto-translate text into other languages (meaning you can send messages in English and the other person can be typing in another language and both of you receive the messages in your chosen language), and it can be used across multiple apps as well.

Cons

Talking about the cons, the phones lack support for microSD cards and do not feature a 3.5 mm audio jack. Furthermore, rumours had it that Google would be releasing a folding pixel, which of course, did not happen.
