Richard Mille and Ferrari Announce a New Record Breaking Watch Overnight — Richard Mille x Ferrari RM UP-01 Ferrari

The ongoing battle for extreme thinness in the luxury watchmaking segment seems to be intensifying. The first thin watch to catch everyone’s attention was Piaget’s Altiplano, followed by Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo Ultra, which measured just 1.80mm in thickness and took the title in March. Now, Richard Mille and Ferrari have announced a new record holder, the RM UP-01 Ferrari, that measures just 1.75mm.

The new record holder was announced by Richard Mille and Ferrari overnight. It edges out the thinnest Bulgari watch by 0.05mm. Unlike Piaget and Bulgari, the Richard Mille watch has assembled the entire movement, which is just 1.18mm thick, into the case, in place of a case back. The Ferrari watch calibre features hours, minutes, and seconds. It also features a function selector. All of them are spread across the thin case design.

Thanks to the broad design of the watch, it can sit very flat and spans a rounded, rectangular shape of 51mm x 39mm. The time indicator of the Ferrari watch is located in the centre of the top half of the watch. Everything surrounds the main time display. Despite the thinness, the Richard Mille watch is rated to 100-metre of water resistance. It had the movement plate strength tested to withstand accelerations of over 5000Gs.

Displaying the true Richard Mille style, the movement plate used for the watch is skeletonized with the dial for the time and dial for the balance, and it is covered by a sapphire crystal complete with an anti-reflective coating that is added on both sides.

As expected from a manufacturer like Richard Mille, the watch is limited to just a few pieces. It has been confirmed that the Ferrari watch will have only 150 pieces.
