Richard Mille Unveils the RM 72-01 Lifestyle In-House Chronograph

 A luxurious combination of art and technology

Richard Mille has unveiled the new RM 72-01 Lifestyle In-House Chronograph that is encased in the company’s signature tonneau-shaped style. It is the first time the company has designed, manufactured, and assembled a flyback chronograph movement in the brand’s workshops located in Les Breuleux, Switzerland.

 

While creating this stunning timepiece, Richard Mille collaborated with French artists, a composer Thomas Roussel, and a choreographer Benjamin Millepied. The aim was to create a dreamy film that featured a man and a woman who can be seen performing a pas-de-deux in the California desert. The film called “Within” is set in Joshua Tree National Park and is designed to draw attention to the raw human energy of the dancers. It also draws attention to how flawlessly the RM 72-01 embodies their movements.

 

The RM 72-01 timepiece has Calibre CRMC1 movements which represent true horological innovation. Its relatively slim at 6.05mm and has 425 components and an automatic movement. The movement construction team of Richard Mille spent about 30 months’ worth of full-time work. It incorporated a double-clutch system which comes with oscillating pinions that are developed as well as patented by the brand.

 

The barrel can be optimally wound in this timepiece by using rotor in platinum with ceramic ball bearings and combining with a One Way® reverser system. The entire train of the RM 72-01 uses a unique profile for teeth of the wheels and ensures a 20° pressure angle. This system is essential as it equalizes any discrepancies that might occur due to normal use or thermal changes.

 

The RM 72-01 watch comes in four case extensions, white ceramic, black, gold, and titanium. It also features an unconventional dial layout. The piece will retail for USD 188,000 (About AUD 258,590.24) and will be available exclusively at the Richard Mille boutiques across the globe.
