If you are missing the dystopian murderous mayhem and the robot doll that kill if someone moves, the gap is about to be filled. Season 2 of the immensely popular Netflix series Squid Game is on its way. The first details were shared by the creator Hwang Dong-Hyuk of the series via an intriguing teaser video.

The South-Korean series that focused on win-or-die games and exploited wealth inequality and poor people was the most-watched original title by Netflix as it clocked up 1.65 billion viewing hours after the first four weeks of its release.

Now, the series will be back. The creator of Squid Game 1, Hwang Dong-Hyuk, who will also create season 2, has shared a teaser video showing an extreme close-up of the blinking red eye of the giant animatronic doll whose lethal bullets killed anyone who dared move after the red light flashed.

Hwang also shared that the murderous doll won’t be alone this time. Named Young-hee, the doll would return with her boyfriend, who would also kill poor victims who don’t stick to the game’s rules.

Though the teaser was short and not loaded with details, Hwang has confirmed that protagonist Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) and the villainous Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun) will return for Squid Game 2. The man in the suit (played by Gong Yoo) who recruits players with a game of ddakji will also be back, possibly looking for more victims.

Hwang wrote in a statement posted on Twitter, “It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As the writer, director, and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout-out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show. Join us once more for a whole new round.”

Squid Game was immensely popular, and its return was inevitable. It was so popular that South Korean internet provider SK Broadband sued Netflix to pay for costs from increased network traffic and maintenance work which happened due to an unexpected surge in viewers. The show also inspired innumerable knock-offs, countless memes, and costumes. It even kickstarted the sales of green tracksuits. It also won three of the four awards it was up for at the Screen Actors Guild.
