It is the first time that a non-English series is becoming one of the biggest Netflix titles ever. According to Ted Sarandos, the co-CEO of Netflix, Squid Game is on its way to becoming the biggest non-English series on the streaming platform. With that, it might also become the biggest show on Netflix.

Usually, Netflix does not share viewership data with people. So, fans typically make guesses based on the top 10 lists or the top-trending list available on Netflix. However, now that Netflix has become more transparent, Sarandos has made some interesting revelations.

Sarandos stated that Korean thriller is topping all lists throughout the world. Regarding this, he stated, “Squid Game will definitely be our biggest non-English language show in the world.”

If the guesses by Sarandos are correct, then there is no doubt that Squid Game will even beat the benchmarks that Lupin has set. Furthermore, Bridgerton, which is the biggest show ever on Netflix, might also lose to the Korean series.

Generally, Netflix relies on viewership metrics that revolve around the number of people that watch a title. Other than that, people who watch the first 2 minutes of a movie within 28 days are also one of the key metrics.

Based on the recent data, series has gone viral throughout the world. And currently, the series is on the first spot in 76 countries. No Korean drama has received such acclaim before.

The hit K-series Squid Game was released on 17th September. So, it has only been 11 days since it came out. Yet, the rise of this series has been quite quick.

In Australia, Squid Game was on the 2nd spot until the 23rd of September. Since then, the series has taken the first spot, and the number of viewers continue to increase. Now, fans all over the world are hoping for season 2 to get released soon.

However, the director of Squid Game, Dong-Hyuk Hwang, has stated that he might produce some feature films before considering making a sequel. And for that, he might be taking help from multiple directors and a writers’ room, as he puts it.
